Bio and Contact

I was born in Santiago de Chile in 1971.

I pursued graduate studies in photography at the Gris Art Escola of Photography in Barcelona; studied architecture for one year, and watercolor painting, bout at Mexico's National Autonomous University; and attended the International Film School in Cuba, where I studied direction of photography.

In the last 20 years my work has been published in such magazines as: Time, Newsweek, Wired, Nouvel Observateur, Figaro, Geo, Altaïr, Gatopardo, Macropolis, Proceso, Cuartoscuro, Expansion, Milenio, Magis, Los temas del mañana. I have also been contributor for Sipa Press, Gamma and Corbis.

In 1996, I co-authored with writer Dauno Totoro, a book about the Zapatistas, which was published in Buenos Aires. In 2001, an updated version of the same book was published in Mexico. In 2006, Editorial Maipue (Buenos Aires), published a new book which I co-authored with historian Guillermo Almeyra, entitled Zapatistas: A New World Under Construction, with a chronicle I wrote of a long journey through the rebel zone in 2005, which included a selection of my photos.

Through the years I have collaborated with different NGO, foundations and institutes such as: Global Health Partners; Disarm Education Fund, The Rockefeller Foundation and International Red Cross of Geneva. I have also made some advertising projects for El Cielo Country Club, Megacable, Miller Light Beer, Magallanes Shipping, Vitro Bottling, between others.

In 2011 I lived three months in New York through an arts residence supported by Mexico's National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA) in order to conclude my documentary photography essay Somebody In New York Loves Me. The result of this work was exposed in 2012 at Casa Escorza Gallery in Guadalajara.

In 2013 I made a photography book on child labor in the state of Jalisco, in collaboration with Mexican photographer Natalia Fregoso, titled Everywhere, Hundreds Of Thousands. This book, has been co-funded by Mexico’s National Council for Culture and Arts (CONACULTA).

In 2014 I won the second national photography contest "De aquí soy" organized by the documentary photo agency Cuartoscuro. That same year I was a finalist in the main photo contest Georgia: Kolga Tbilisi Photo and also in the International Festival Image contest (based in Pacucha, state of Hidalgo, Mexico) as part of their collective exhibitions.

In 2014 I won first place in the Latin American competition "Los trabajos y los días" at the School "Escuela Sindical de Medellín Colombia", in the category "Child labor".

In March-June 2016 a wide selection of my finests works from my 25 year career were on exhibit at the Museum of Journalism and Graphic Arts in Guadalajara.

Presently I am a Mexican citizen.

Since 2018 I´m member of the National System of Art Creators.
